My wife and I had worked very well with Matt when we bought our townhouse a few years ago. This year we decided to look for a single family home in Rancho Penasquitos so we asked Matt's help again. After the close of our escrow, I want to share a few things that impress me most about Matt.
As a realtor for decades, Matt is very professional. When touring the house, he spots every minor issue. He offers recommendations on their impact and propose remedies. He guides us through the home buying process and connect us with all contractors and agents. His good connections makes our home purchase and remodeling smooth and painless.
Matt is very responsive. He always texts back in a few minutes. In one time, to catch up with the offer review deadline, he managed to prepare all the documents on a flight during a business trip in an hour. With Matt, you won't miss the chance of offering your dream house.
Matt's service does not end when the purchase is done. He can be part of every step of our home. We went abroad for a few days after our escrow close. During our travel time, Matt takes care of the remodeling, updates us every day, and even fixed some minor issues by himself. It makes me feel that his goal is not only to help us buy a home but to make sure we can have a comfortable life in the new house.
Even if not as a realtor, he is a warm-hearted friend with whom you want to spend time. During our escrow, we had problems renting our old house and that could be detrimental to our loan. In additional to all valuable technical assistance, Matt visited us in person and brought some thoughtful gifts, hoping to lessen our stress. We want to thank him for the comfort he shared with us during the hard time.

When my husband and I first started our home search, we picked one of the most popular realtors on yelp. I won't go into detail here, but just know that if you go for one of those spots, you'll most likely be passed onto a less experienced agent unless you're in the $$$$$ range. After doing a lot of research and interviewing a handful of other real estate agents, we chose Matt O'Brien to be our realtor and walk us through buying our first home. Immediately (ok, don't tell Matt that part) after our interview, because he was honest, shared a ton of great info, and knows all of the surrounding areas and communities in San Diego. The process went smoothly and we felt as if we made a new friend in the process.Fast forward a few years later... the time had come to move out of state and we were struggling whether to hold on to our townhome and keep it as rental or if we should sell it. We love San Diego and our location in Clairemont was awesome too. Matt told us to keep it as long as it wasn't a financial burden, especially because we plan to move back to San Diego someday. I guess I wasn't surprised, because Matt always put us before his own interests and he hasn't changed. Well, after a lot of back and forth, we decided to sell as we moved out of state and it COULDN'T HAVE GONE ANY BETTER! . He helped us get the home ready for the market and WOW! He basically took care of most of the upgrades we did in the house from flooring, painting, outlets, minor repairs, carpet, cabinets/countertops, even new mirrors and door knobs! (I highly recommend listening to his recommendations!). Then he had it staged (highly recommended, this makes the finished product look much better!), and he got professional photos, real video, aerial, and a 3-D tour too (all of it turned out incredible!). We ended up getting 9 offers on our place and we sold it for WAY over what I was originally hoping for! He shared the offers with us and discussed the pros and cons of the different aspects and thoroughly went over the options with us, then he gave us his "gut instincts" too.He does an INCREDIBLE job in all aspects. The best part is not only do you get a knowledgeable partner that is on your side, he is the most ethical Realtor I have met. We’ve had Matt help us find two homes and sell one over the past 13 years. I have honestly never met anyone with his patience, enthusiasm, and knowledge. I used Matt O’Brien, Realtor to sell my codo in the San Diego’s Marina last winter and -simply put- he was outstanding! Matt had worked with my dad a few years back when he sold his home in Tierrasanta so my dad enthusiastically recommended him to me when I was on the market for a codo in downtown San Diego. Matt did an amazing job and helped me buy a beautiful condo downtown San Diego below asking price (in those days you still could find amazing deals!).
